Adopt-A-Mom

CHRISTMAS, family
Any experienced nursing mamas willing to adopt my friend who's having difficulties nursing her 2.5 week old? She's starting to lose confidence and considering switching to exclusively pumping. She has an overactive letdown and her beeb fusses at the breast a lot and she just started using a pacifier, which she'd rather not do. She's not on LJ so you'd need a Facebook.

It's taken me a long time to come to this, but I've decided to sell meitaicarrier.com ... anyone know any at home mamas that would like to start earning some money? I am SO sad to see it go but I really haven't done anything with it since Alice was born and I know someone else could be successful with it.

CHRISTMAS, family
Here's some of what else has been going on.

I had a horrible hair saga that went something like this...

hair drama )

Other than the cookie business I've been working insanely hard on the girls' Halloween costumes. Bea is going to be Coraline and I've spent the last 2-3 months knitting and appliqueing her sweater. Alice is going to be Ming Ming from the Wonderpets. I REALLY wanted to be the "other mother" from Coraline and even got all of the materials to make the costume but I am out of steam and out of time. For the first time EVER I threw in the handmade towel and decided to purchase costumes for Jason & myself.

I will try to be around more, REALLY! Bea is "sick of sitting here" and we need to go get ready for the day.

Has anyone else seen the amazing WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE movie? We loved it.

Alice's B-day

CHRISTMAS, family
OK, so I'm a couple of days late on the promised post, but I'm here now!

I can't believe how long it's been since I posted. After the insane amount of cake & cookie decorating I did for Alice's birthday party I promptly did ANOTHER party with another cake, cupcakes, and cookie favors and then decided to go into business. I haven't officially opened yet but I have spent the last few months cookie-ing and baking my my butt off to hone my skills. Today I am finishing the last step on what will be the grand opening. I've spent the last few days decorating 300+ Halloween sugar cookies to hand out to local businesses, friends, and the trick or treaters (packaged with business cards, of course). I'm going to start off with cookies, cupcakes and small cakes and eventually move onto wedding cakes, but I want to make sure I know what I'm doing before I confront someone's big day!

Here is my incomplete site. If you go to the portfolio you can see what I've been working on lately.

So anyway, Alice's birthday party was a blast.

CHRISTMAS, family
I AM going to update this blog tonight or tomorrow, I swear. If I do not please remind me.

I think the reason I've been SO SO absent is because I've been working hard on starting a new company and it's occupied a fair amount of my time. I still read my FL every day though!

head for the hills

CHRISTMAS, family
Hawaii is under a tsunami watch because of the 7.9 earthquake in Samoa this morning. We packed up all of our animals, dry goods, and emergency supplies and headed over to our friend's house that is at almost 800 ft elevation. WE will be OK. Our house in at about 29 ft elevation and only a few miles from the shore so if the tsunami actually hits there will likely be damage.

Keep us in your prayers. Don't worry about US, we're a-OK up here on the hill. I am grateful we had enough warning to pack up and get out of the way. Jason is at work and is going to be meeting us here shortly.

CHAMELEON BABIES!

CHRISTMAS, family
I thought these guys deserved a post of their own. Our Jackson Chameleon Belle had babies a few days ago. We had NO IDEA she was pregnant. Very sadly, she died two days later. She had been on a hunger strike for quite a while and we also think she had a fungal infection. I'm glad she held out for her babies to arrive and I'm doing my best to make sure they live. 11 were born and there are 8 surviving. One wasn't fully developed and we didn't expect him to make it. If they do we're going to build a big screened cage in the back yard for them to live together yet still have enough space for their own territories. By the way, our newer male addition Gaston IS NOT THE FATHER. Chameleons take 6-9 months to gestate (and give live birth!) so she was pregnant when we found her. The babies are out of the cage now and in their own terrarium until we get the big enclosure built.

CHRISTMAS, family
My brother got laid off a few months ago and hasn't been able to find work so he came out to stay with us and work for Jason for a while. He'll be here until the end of August and it's been really great having him. He's a really good house guest and gets along really well with the girls. They ADORE him. He's been loving Hawaii and we really love having him here.

CHRISTMAS, family
I was having issues with my flickr account and after a few weeks I finally decided to pursue what was wrong with it. It turned out that one of their servers had been blocked on my computer which I can only assume happened by Bea clicking randomly around. So that's why I haven't been able to update.

Rest In Peace, King of Pop

CHRISTMAS, family

Most people who are close to us in real life know (and tease us for being) that we are big fans of Michael Jackson around our house. Jason and I both always have been and it's been passed on to be in a serious way. Bea ADORES him and so does Alice actually... every time I plug the iPod into the car they both as to hear Beat It. We actually just bought some iron-ons last Friday because Bea has been begging for a Michael Jackson T-shirt. The ringtone on my phone is Billie Jean.

Regardless of the details of his personal life the man was an AMAZING musician and entertainer.

Bea told me not to be sad, because he's still alive when we listen to his music.

Jason has taken over laying the girls down at night and it has brought me much sanity. I get an opportunity to (gasp!) actually bathe. Or read! Or bake without being harassed about tastes of batter or icing. The girls were upset for the first couple of days but now after we read our stories and sing our songs Alice says, "Goodbye! Miss" (as in, I will miss you). Alice usually joins us in bed sometime after midnight and Bea usually comes in when Jason leaves for work at 4 or 5.

Not that I could really forget him or anything. :)

I got this because my Gramps had pear trees in the yard of the house they lived in while I was growing up and where my brothers and I played. The trees had marigolds growing under them.

I go back in in about 10 days for some more coloring and there will be 2-3 sessions more after that. Four hours down, about 16 more to go! The art is by Amy at Tattoo Licious in Waikiki.

Do you realize?

Do you realize
that you have the most beautiful face?

Do you realize
we're floating in space?

Do you realize
that happiness makes you cry?

Do you realize
that everyone you know someday will die.

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes

let them know you realize

that life goes fast

it's hard to make the good things last.

You realize the sun doesn't go down

it's just an illusion caused by the world

spinning 'round.
